CCJ Founding Mission

Watch video of how our organization was born

In 1997, a group of 25 of the country’s leading journalists led by Bill Kovach and Tom Rosenstiel sat down at the Harvard Faculty Club to discuss the declining state of journalism, and to organize a comprehensive examination of news gathering and its responsibilities. As a result of this undertaking, the Committee of Concerned Journalists was born. In the years since, more than 10,000 journalists from across the United States and around world have benefitted from CCJ’s training programs, research, and efforts to preserve quality journalism. This video provides more detail about the founding and original mission of The Committee of Concerned Journalists.
