A Summit to Improve Journalistic Coverage of Public Education

June 15, 2009, The Harvard Club of New York City

Over half of inner city students do not graduate from high school, yet media coverage of this crisis remains intermittent at best. CCJ used its convening power to bring together some of the most respected voices in journalism, education, and business to discuss this critical issue. The day-long summit, co-hosted by The Maynard Foundation, explored ways to boost reporting of this ominous trend, that is expected to have a major impact on America's social cohesion and global competitiveness.

The exchange of ideas at the summit yielded breakthroughs on approaches to expand coverage of low high school graduation rates, as an issue of major social and economic  importance. In 2010, expect to see more in-depth reporting on this crisis.
